Incidently, the negative M223 says you are not in I1c. The negative P37
says you are not in I1b or its further subclade I1b2. That leaves I1a as
the only known subclade yet to be tested for. That's a P30 test. My guess
is that that is what they do next. But assuming it also is negative, that
leaves you I1* (I1 "anything else") or just I* (I "anything else").
Actually these last are the most interesting categories in I, as we have not
seen yet a proven example of a many marker, extended haplotype of I1* or I*.
We have a good candidate, but yet no final designation. We have some 5
marker I* or I1* haplotypes, but they are not very informative.

The difference between being I* and I1* can be determined from the P38 SNP.

It will do no good for me alone stating how totally bizzare your haplotype
is, if in fact the reported SNP tests indicating you are in haplogroup I are
correct. I hope others who have followed this haplogroup closely will chime
in with their take on it.

When you have such a very unusual haplotype which is nothing like anything
seen in 1 1/2 years of immersion in the population of I haplotypes, there is
no choice but to either be very excited about where it fits or be very
suspicious that a lab has made a big mistake. Seeing a full 43 markers of
such a renegade haplotype in haplogroup I would be fascinating and
informative. If all the previously mentioned SNP tests are confirmed to be
valid, I'll buy a 43 marker haplotype for this dna.

Your initial feeling that the haplotype was I1c was quite logical given the
DYS392 and 393 values along with the DYS388 value.

Ken
