I would be much more concerned if one of the labs had a different value
besides 15 and 17. This type of discrepancy represents more of an
interpretation difference than a "mistake" by one or more of the labs. The
number of markers with each value is judged by peak height of the
electropherogram. Each lab was working with a different sample and
different equipment on different days using different reference samples.
Even in rechecking they are most likely using the same sample unless FTDNA
pulls the second sample and does a second DNA isolation which will indeed
take more than a day.

You don't really have different results, you have different interpretations
of the same results, values of 15 and 17 for DYS464 markers. Certainly the
DYS464x test will tell you whether you have two markers with one of the
values--probably the 17--however, the number of markers with the second
value will still be up in the air as there are no primers that distinguish
all four markers from each other as for the Kittler test for DYS385.

Subject: [DNA] Different DYS464 results from different labs

On Sept. 26, I posted that I had received different DYS464
results from FTDNA and DNA-Fingerprint. I emailed both labs to
report the discrepancy. FTDNA replied that it would take a few
weeks to recheck it, and I'm hoping that it won't be too much
longer. DNA-Fingerprint rechecked the same day and affirmed
their confidence in their results.

I decided to get tested at Relative Genetics. I received the
results from them today. They reported two values for DYS464
instead of four. I assumed that they were using the
conservative reporting convention, and emailed Natalie at RG
asking her for all the values. She replied, "We have recently
begun reporting all values obtained for DYS464. What you see
reported was all that was obtained through testing." So now
I've gotten three different DYS464 results from three different
labs:

15-15-15-17 FTDNA
15-15-17-17 DNA-Fingerprint
15-17 Relative Genetics

Since the extended DYS464 test at DNA-Fingerprint is more
sensitive than the normal DYS464 test, their results seem to be
the most likely to be correct, but it is very disturbing that
none of the lab results agree with each other. I emailed
Natalie this evening to explain the situation and to ask her to
please recheck my DYS464. Hopefully, they will be able to
provide some clarification. Or perhaps when FTDNA rechecks it,
they will be able to shed some light on it.
