From my brief conversations with some folks at SMGF, I have the impression
DYS464 was not included because of the "complexity" (It's not exactly easy
to incorporate into TMRCA estimates, and now we know there is an interesting
alternative mutation mechanism at play which makes it next to impossible for
TMRCA). I believe they have DYS464 measured for their database population;
the same lab that does SMGF database is hired by DNAH and Relative Genetics
for their commercial products which include DYS464. But as more people
tell them how valuable DYS464 is for identifying group affiliations, and
they realize they can get an almost 10 percent increase in their database
information content, I think they might be considering adding it to the
public database.
