One other question; if I am two repeats away from modal and my nearest 12,
12 matches are none at 12,12 and 2 at one step(1 Native American and 1
Sweden and 1 at two step (Sweden) and 7 at three step ( 1 England, 1 Poland,
1 Sweden and 1 Denmark with the other 3 being Native American how is the
modal determined? (I.e. should not I have at least some 12, 12 matches?)
Again, thanks, Jim Lawson

Jim:
Relatively few haplogroup Q have been SNP tested and entered into publicly available databases. Many Q have no exact matches in the FTDNA Haplogroup Database. I have private databases for Central Asia but these are closed to all but research uses. It appears that you are one of those relatively rare individuals whose haplotype by chance matches SNP tested Q individuals of both Native American and European / Central Asian descent. This is going to make it very dfficult to say you are one or the other without some sort of genealogical validation. Another approach is to take the muliplex test (Product 17) and see if you belong to one of the Q subgroups which may in turn be associated with a particular geographic area.
Good luck,
David Faux.
