There some interesting social changes going on across the world that are going to affect the genetic structure of the world in but a few generations.

In speaking with my daughter last night she was saying that Korea is so afraid of the declining birth rate that there is now more of an acceptance of Koreans marrying "foreigners". In Korea right now my blonde daughter is still stared at because she looks different. While I was on the phone with her a few weeks ago she was in a bookstore and had to tell a group of children to please stop staring it was making her feel uncomfortable - the fact that she was speaking English on the cell phone and Korean to them made their jaw drop. This scenario will become more and more rare as Koreans continue to take Western husbands and wives.

My grandchildren will likely have light brown hair and brown eyes, it is the next generation that will be very interesting. All will be carrying a recessive blue eye gene. If one grandchild marries a blue eyed individual the children could be phenotypically anything from 100% English - Canadian looking to 100% Korean looking and all blends in between. The genetic changes across this planet are happening so rapidly that many do not realize the consequences. Fortunately Spencer Wells does and hence the importance of the Genographic Project.

Ken,

Let me throw in a wee bit of a biggotted possible explanation here.

I can recall being at a social event in Toronto in which there were great
numbers of White Russians. I found myself chuckling at one comment being
made. I heard mothers and grandmothers say it to their sons and grandsons,
"I'll be happy with any woman you marry, just so long as she has blue eyes."
Natural selection? Sounds like a rather specific selection preference in
play.
