For those interested, do a Googles of the ethnic term Tocharian or
Tokharian, which got placed onto a culture known to the Chinese, having
preceded the Uighurs in the Tarim Basin in what is now Chinese Turkestan.
Mind you, everyone seems to agree that this Indo-European tartan wearing
people came from the West. But it removes the need to turn to Alexander's
army to explain blue eyes and so on in Afghanistan, whch also received
Indo-Europeans in several early waves.

This still does not explain where this "fairness" comes from originally and
how it (with its associated genes) moved. I interpreted Ellen to be saying
that we should be open to ideas. For example could it have come from what
are now the Slavic parts of Europe (which would include Thrace etc)? On this
list it is well known that the Scandinavians and Germans are very much
genetically influenced by movements from the East. Of course the Gauls were
already felt to be red heads in Roman times, but even in recent generations
I understand that the Ukraine might be the most blond part of Europe?

Regards
Andrew

Greek writers and historians refer to the blue eyes and red hair of Thrace
(land to the north or northeast of Greece), and this over 2000 years ago.
