I disagree heartily. In these particular cases these folks have readily
identifiable haplotypes which strongly suggest a haplogroup. In such cases
a well thought out custom test program allows the owner to learn the most
for the least expense. I will tell you why my beliefs are so strong about
this. If people are talked into a bunch of costly tests which add little to
their knowledge about their haplotype's relationship to the downstream
haplogroups, I think they will be much more difficult to convince to do
tests when they and the broader community could really learn some things of
interest by planned SNP tests. I would recommend a plan of custom tests
for these folks.
