NIH would need to be convinced that such a study would benefit public
health. This is the sticky point for many academic institutions seeking NIH grant
$$ for population genetic research: e.g., the Cavalli-Sforza lab at Stanford.

It's unlikely such a study would ever be done. It would have to be a
very BIG study to be of any use (at least 100,000 certified and willing
grandfather-father-son triples), and a positive result is theoretically
impossible. Who is going to fund a project like that?
