Subject: haplogroup r1b or q?--I am confused
Date: Wed, 30 Nov 2005 18:05:57 -0600
I have a participant in my Pierce surname group that has a set of numbers that are miles away from others in our group. Family tree dna predicts R1b as his haplogroup.
I just entered the numbers at Whit's site and get a number of 50 for Q and 35 for R1b. Any opinions on these results? Guess we need to have the haplogroup tested. I don't know much about Q as we've had no others with this haplogroup in the project. A brief search tells me that it occurs in native Americans. This ancestor did marry a native American woman in the 1700s in Virginia, but he has an "English" name. Perhaps he was also native American and changed names.
Here are the results:

390-24
19-14
391-10
385a-11
385b-16
426-12

448-19

464a-15

Thanks for any thoughts on this. Brad Pierce
