As a long time member of this list I hate to see blatant advertising - and
we have had instances of inappropriate activity in the past that were
immediately addressed and stopped by our list administrator.

However, if we stopped discussing the EA and DNAFP products and results,
there would be very very little left on the list. These tests were
developed FOR US, at our request and pushing. FTDNA also has done the same
thing. Alastair has recently added a posting function for us on his web
site. Is it advertising or is it a list benefit? Well, no one else did it
and if we see his company name when we go there - he deserves that for
providing this free service. These companies (and others) are our partners
in this journey and without them, their services and their partnership, we
wouldn't have a list or anything to discuss. This is new, raw science, pure
and simple and we do discuss it, to death. How could we not?

This is not an instance where we can divorce the discussions from the
offerings of the companies involved. The only thing we could do would be to
move the list entirely to another forum, which I think would not ultimately
be beneficial to the group as a whole.
