I think the 12 Y-STR markers have potential though. There is just a
lack of data. For example I look at my J2-M172 Y-STR marker set from the
NG Genographic Project and I don't line up very well with many of J/J2
haplotypes (I just looked at the Sengupta data set (Am. J. Hum. Genet.
(2006) 78 and I'm not close to any of those J's reported there). So it
looks like 12 markers has potential. With more data I think there will
be interesting results pop out however. I'm hopeful at least.

The Genographic project was seeking a data set of 100,000 samples world
wide I thought. Lofty goal --- it may take a while.
