Subject: Re: [DNA] YCA iib mutations: infinite alleal

Mark, no such large jumps in my small Tagert sample, but we do have a
single step mutation from 19-24 to 19-23 sometime in the past four
generations. My guess is that it was three generations ago, with my
great grandfather's brother having the deletion. It's just an
intuitive guess, & I wouldn't put any money on it, but I also expect
to be eventually proved correct with further testing. When I think of
the initial appearance of a mutation, I typically think in terms of
additions versus deletions. Does anyone have any information about
whether additions or deletions are more common?
Has anyone considered whether deletions & mutations at YCAIIa/b have
a higher than average frequency in the Scots modal? I think that the
only place we could get this info is from the various project
administrators? Any comments appreciated, Pat
