I just saw kit number 50727. So, in the first 12 days of January, FTDNA has
gone up about 720 kits from the 50000 that they hit almost exactly at
midnight, New Year's Eve. This is about 60 new kits per day. If they were
to average that for this full year, they will sell about 22,000 kits. (In
2005, they sold about 20,000.)

I had expected orders to fall off in January, after the end of their holiday
promotion. Not so thus far. We'll see what happens over time.

My sense is that awareness of the value of DNA testing to genealogy
continues to spread in the general population and that our genetic genealogy
efforts are becoming more widely accepted. I think that is great.

Best regards, Terry Barton

Is it my imagination or are we seeing a significant drop in the
number of new Y-STR participants?
