Subject: Inquiry - markers to match Irish study- Follow-on question
Date: Tue, 24 Jan 2006 12:49:44 -0800 (PST)
Thanks for responses! Follow-on question:
On comparing the 25 marker test offered by FTDNA to M5UKQ
http://www.ysearch.org/research_comparative.asp?uid=G4EF6&vallist=M5UKQ
(thanks David for posting that!)
I see that the Irish study has 49 markers. FTDNA offers 25 max. The 25 offered by FTDNA are identical to M5UKQ and M5UKQ matches.
Given the 25 marker match, what does that say (if anything) about the time frame of relatedness and probability of relationship of M5UKQ to that of the 47 marker Ui Neill? What do the extra markers in the Irish study mean for probability of relationship? Are they what you would call down stream markers, unneccessary for proving relationship? Or do the refined microsatellite markers enhance and define the relastionship?
Thanks. You all are good.
