Haplogroup N3 is considered characteristic of Uralic
and Baltic-speaking tribes that migrated to Europe
about 5000 years ago. However, it is not just
prevelant among Finnish and Baltic peoples, but also
among some Slavic groups, for example Russians
(5%-35%. See Y Chromosomes and MtDNA of Russians).
They seem to have received their N3, however, from
Finno-Ugric ancestors from the Volga region.
Haplogroups O and C3 are prevelant in Siberian groups
and hence, I have little doubt low frequencies might
be found in Slavic Russians as well. R1a is, of
course, very prevelant in these Siberian & Central
Asian populations as well.
