Since Sorenson does not have any mtDNA samples posted, I would say it
would be impossible for anyone to know if a female has submitted a
sample. Even with the males it is extremely difficult to track down
submitters. I have about half a dozen Wells submitters to their
project that I can not identify. Even if you can identify the
genealogy you would be hard pressed to find the individual who
provided the sample. In one case I am certain that a close relative
to someone I KNOW submitted a sample has to be the source, but we
have not been able to identify the submitter and without knowledge of
the genealogy for the family beyond what is posted in the Sorenson
pedigree connected to the sample it would be almost impossible. Add
to that the problem with as many as 1 in 7 people moving each year
let alone those who have died since they submitted - good luck. I
doubt Sorenson could find half the submitters at this point and they
know who they were.
Even if you think you know who the person is, unless they "confess"
you could not "prove" it. Having said that, I have been able to
track down a couple of donors and we are trying to locate someone
from another surname. It has not been easy. Keep in mind that those
who have submitted to this project WANT to be found for the most
part. Like us, they want to have help with their genealogy and if the
reason one is trying to find them is to discuss the genealogy, they
probably will have no problem with it.
