Ah, there's the rub !!!
As Sorensen does not test 464, those with 459 = 8,9 and missing 463 may not
be Irish Type III.
I found some 30 with 8,9 at 459 and 464 the usual 15,15,17,17 but as Ken
pointed out;-
"So just random, individual mutations will generate the extra 40 or so
DYS459 = 8-9 haplotypes seen in a large database such as SMGF or Ysearch.
The fact that there is no geographical
concentration or no other markers with decisive modal shifts from R1b as a
whole indicates there is most likely no "grouping" here. Not only is the
13-13-15-17 at DYS464 an important feature of the true Irish variety, but
also the DYS463 = 23 instead of 22 is important."
I have not found one example yet with 459 = 8,9 and 464 = 13,13,15,17 where
the 463 was missing.
Those in Sorensen with a 23 at 463 may well be Irish Type III but I doubt if
the 463 missing are.
