I read a long time ago that the Giraldus or whatever, who was with William
the Conqueror was one of his financial backers. As his family got to be
called de Windsor at first it hints he was close to the crown at the what
was later Windsor Castle maybe. I very vaguely remember that wherever I was
reading he was from Florence- now this is before the Renaissance bankers,
money lending in 1066 was a sin for Christians. That hints that he may not
have been Christian- so perhaps a Jewish financier.

He is also an ancient ancestor of the Tyrone Con Bacagh O'Neill(so me as
well?), whose mother was a Fitzgerald, granddaughter of the 7th(?) Earl
Desmond. And he a descendant of Ferdinand III Castile who is a descendant of
Muhammad the Prophet.

It is strange having a saint and a prophet in your putative ancestry anyone
certain of theirs?), counterbalances all the thugs! All Europe's genes
awaits down that line, and the rest.

Don,

I found Nesta of Wales. Boy, she was an interesting lady! However, it
doesn't mention where the FitzGeralds were before Wales. I'm interested in
the time
before Normandy. I have the Seamus McManus book on Irish History but
unfortunately I can't seem to locate at the moment. Of course, his info may
be
inaccurate anyway.

I'll try to find the sources, as I also have distant FitzGerald ancestors.

The Welsh connection should be easier to find. Perhaps, checking the
Internet for Nesta of Wales? It would be great if there is a good number
of
FitzGerald Y-DNA results to try to pin the situation down. As I mentioned
in a recent email to the List, DNA results for Milligaan/Millikken/Mullikin

etc. have greatly altered our research-based conclusion that our Y-DNA
origins were among the Brythonic-speaking tribes of SW Scotland. Y-DNA
results are pointing our origins to be among the NW Irish Tribes
