I have been wondering at which point to reply to a R1a-thread, but I feel
that this is the right time.
My boyfriend (with Swedish ancestry) has just been DNA-tested by DNA
Heritage, taking both the 43-marker Y-STR as well as the SNP test. He came
back R1a1a, positive at M56. I sent an email back last week to inquire if
the result is not a typo, but that would really be a highly unlikely
coincidence. I'm still waiting for a reply from DNAH.
Anyway, for those who claim that M56 has only been found in one individual,
there might thus be yet another case - in Europe - and others might follow!
Therefore, until a greater number of people in North-Eastern Europe have
been SNP-tested, I think we should be cautious to dismiss the subclade
markers within R1a1 outright as private SNPs.
