Too bad. I was hoping to compare some notes.

Jasper M. Bates' father John A. Bates was born abt. 1794 in The Old
Dominion, meaning VA. Of course, I do not know if Mary's parents were first
in VA or some other location, because I know nothing about them.

Mary and husband Jasper moved with their family to Arkansas by 1880, where
they are in the Jefferson, Izard Co., AR census for that year. They died
before the 1900 census. There are Odles/Odells in that area that I have not
researched yet.

I have early maternal and paternal ancestors in VA (and PA), but my direct
lines moved to other states.
