Lee Anne,

My earliest known maternal ancestor is Bridget maiden-name-unknown
Franklin, born somewhere in Ireland c. 1814. I believe she did not
arrive in America much before 1840.

I don't understand this question: "In my previous e-mail, I asked you
about your earliest known direct
maternal line ancestor. Is there one for whom you do know the maiden name,
perhaps in a later century?"

Her oldest daughter was named Mary Elizabeth. She was born in New
Jersey. She married a man named Donovan whom she seems to have met in
Pittsburgh. He was definitely born somewhere in County Cork, and was
definitely Catholic.

I have noticed a tendency for ancestors on another of my family lines to
marry people from the same county in Ireland, but whether that happened
in this branch is unknown. There's a bit of circumstantial evidence
though. On Mitosearch, you should be getting an HVR1 match with User ID
FEQUA. Well the earliest ancestor for that case has the surname Lehane,
and that is definitely a surname typical of County Cork.

County Cork is not likely to be the place of origin for a line like
yours, which appears to be mostly Scots-Irish and I assume Protestant.
But that FEQUA match with 048A,093C,224C,291T,311C,519C might also
indicate a common ancestor of all three of us. Or even more of the ones
with that sequence on Mitosearch.

Jim
