Subject: 36/36 marker Y-DNA match of distant cousins with same surname and known MRCA
Date: Wed, 19 Jul 2006 14:20:01 -0500

Two of us with an identical surname have found through Y-DNA tests that we have an exact match of 36/36 marker values. We know from independent research that we are fifth cousins once removed and share a most recent common ancestor whose life is well documented 6/7 generations ago. It would appear that the identification of this precise ancestral haplotype (without mutational differences) could help others among this known ancestor's numerous living descendents and that a surname project to establish connections would have good chances for success. Comments and advice would be appreciated.
