Subject: Status of deepSNP tests
Date: Tue, 22 Aug 2006 18:17:40 -0500
The good news is that the intermediate status of FTDNA's deepSNP tests is
now *supposedly* displayed in the Notes section of the Pending Lab Results
tab.
The bad news is that this status does not distinguish between tests failed,
tests not yet run, and tests passed but with results withheld. All three of
these statuses are displayed as test failures.
In my project I have deepSNPs for which, I have been told specifically, some
tests passed and some tests failed, but intermediate results have been
withheld due to an unintended effect on haplogroup prediction. In this new
Status section, all of these tests are listed as failed.
Moreover, some recent deepSNPs (in batches 161, 162, etc.) are listed as all
tests failed when, I suspect, the tests simply have not been run yet.
Here is the identical status for several expected R1a members in my project,
with deepSNPs in batches 137, 144, and 164:
---
The following SNP's have not yet produced a clear result and are in the
process of retesting: M124, M157, M173, M198, M207, M343, M56, M87,
SRY10831.2
---
Here is the identical status of two expected Hg I members, with deepSNPs in
batches 161 and 162:
---
The following SNP's have not yet produced a clear result and are in the
process of retesting: M161, M170, M21, M223, M227, M253, M258, M26, M307,
M72, P19, P30, P37.2, P38
---
Here is the identical status of two expected R1b members, with deepSNPs in
batches 162 and 164:
---
The following SNP's have not yet produced a clear result and are in the
process of retesting: M126, M153, M160, M173, M18, M207, M222, M269, M343,
M37, M65, M73, P25, P66, SRY2627
---
And here's the status of an expected J (who was already 12f2.1+ from a
backbone SNP test) who ordered a deepSNP in batch 161:
---
The following SNP's have not yet produced a clear result and are in the
process of retesting: M102, M12, M137, M158, M163, M166, M172, M205, M267,
M280, M304, M339, M365, M367, M368, M369, M390, M47, M62, M67, M68, M92, M99
---
The bottom line is that this new Status section does not actually give any
additional information beyond what was already available or implicit on the
Haplogroup tab. What we specifically needed was a distinction between
failed, not run, and withheld--and we didn't get it.
