Ron,
Yes, I have been keeping an eye on your very valuable resource.
I am aware of 9 R1bs with DYS641=11. Of these several have the same
surname, suggesting relationship. Of known origins, one is from Bretagne
France, one from Germany, one from Romania, 2 from East Anglia in England,
and a couple of the others have English surnames. Surnames represented are
Marsh, Marsh, Ribble, Lann, Graham, Cooper, Cooper, Lurz, Perry.
My thought is that if the mutation to 11 was very old, more would carry the
mutation. I think in this case, some of the above may be related, but there
are likely several different mutations to 11 represented, given the wide
geographic areas.
But then, my line is from East Anglia, and one of the several contenders for
my ancestor 1000 years ago, was from Bretagne, France. I can't discount
that the Bretagne match has deep ancestry in common. Another thought is that
my ancestors were Anglo-Saxons 1500 years ago. The DYS641=11 from Germany,
an Anglo-Saxon area, has 4 mutations from me on 37 markers, which would not
discount relationship 1500 years ago. The Perry is 8 mutations to me on 37
markers, so a connection in the past 1000-2000 years could not be ruled out.
I will watch DYS641=11 to see if I can see any patterns develop.
John.

"In the case of DYS641, of about 200 R1bs on the R1b project, all are
DYS641=10, except for one result which is DYS641=11. From this it is
inferred that DYS641 is very slow mutating, but also, because off modal
scores of 11 are so rare, they are only useful to a small number of people,
perhaps 0.5% of R1b."
In my chart of 358 R1b participants on Ysearch,
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ncscotts/Y-DNA/R1b%20Extended%20Hap
lotypes%20(Ysearch.org).htm
I have 5 DYS641=11, 1 with a value of 9, and one recent addition with 7.
