Subject: [DNA] Anyone here know how to compute an inbreeding coefficient?
Date: Wed, 25 Oct 2006 00:46:41 -0500
I've seen the formula, but it was years ago.
I understand it's common in traditional societies for people to have a high
inbreeding coefficient even without close inbreeding.
My brother in law's mother was placed in foster care as an infant. She
just produced her birth certificate and some information from teh social
worker and asked me how to find more information on the woman.
Woman was purebred French Canadian, I traced all her lines of ancestry back
to when they migrated from France to Quebec in the 17th century.
My brother in law's father's mother was also French Canadian, and I did the
same with her ancestry.
My brother in law's grandmothers were fifth cousins, but they share more
than a quarter of their emigrant ancestry.
Do any of the geneticists here have the formula for computing hte
coefficient of inbreeding?
