Yes, but that is exactly the point. The subpopulations of (old) I1b differ
so greatly as to indicate an advanced age for the haplogroup as a whole. A
more specific hypothesis would be that I1b predates the most recent Ice Age,
and that its differing subpopulations reflect differing refugia.
