Subject: [DNA] Counties in Sykes' "Central England"
Date: Mon, 20 Nov 2006 22:04:05 -0500
Here are the counties that appear to be contained within Sykes' area of
"Central England" (pre-1974 county designations):
Shropshire, Staffordshire (partial), Derbyshire (only the southern tip),
Nottinghamshire (only the southern tip), Lincolnshire (only the southern
tip). Herefordshire, Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Leicestershire, Rutland,
Huntingtonshire, Northampton, Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, Buckinghamshire,
Oxfordshire, and Gloucestershire.
One of the 0% sites reported by Capelli was in Chippenham, which is barely
over the border from the southern transect of Sykes' Central England region.
There are several small towns that lie just over the northern border of
the specified region which exhibited the presence of E3b in Capelli and
Weale. Birmingham/Coventry are in the center of this region; that is a
large population center to not have any E3b's.
I don't have Sykes' book yet; can anyone relate (briefly) his conclusions
about this Central England region?
Steve
