I think so too. When cousin presented a 12/12 match with same surname last
year the question came up if he should test for more markers - to see if we
matched on all 37. I told him I thought it unnecessary because my 37 could
stand for both. Although I had never met this cousin, he was in my GEDCOM
file. Our ancestor-in-common was a 3 x great grandfather was born in 1806
in PA and with a very solid paper trail down to both cousins. No
non-paternal events. We still have another cousin who sent a sample and a
four generation pedigree to SMGF over a year ago. Still awaiting those
results....
R1a is rare only in the databases, but probably outnumbers R1b in absolute
numbers worldwide. Its diversity hasn't really been sampled yet as deeply
as has R1b.
