Well, yes, you are absolutely correct that the US and
UK font sizes (and font types) are different, as
indeed are the page sizes. There is also a different
tradition on how chapters are organized. (Depending on
publisher, chapters can start on the left or right.)
This is a well-known problem and (to judge from books
I have going back to 1800) not even a new one.
Personally, I believe books should be printed in the
format the author intended, and not adapted or
reformatted to suit the desires of the locals. As
such, if someone on the list talked their local
bookseller into giving them the next edition free,
because their copy was "94 pages short", I would find
it hard to criticize that person.
