You normally speak far too much sense to be on anyone's kill-file but the
above does need a response. You're probably including me amongst your sources
of 'negativity' and I have expressed it lightly. Put seriously I have grave
doubts about anything that artificially extends stupid and nasty conflicts.
Many of the myths about the US revolutionary wars are comfortingly dangerous.
They encouraged support for Irish terrorists. I want to destroy those myths if
they cannot be accepted as fairy tales - and replace them with hard science.
It worries me when those with the hard science seem to be using it to bolster
those myths.
You think I'm being silly? You didn't have your local city blown up with
financial support from the citizens of the USA. You think I'm going over the
top? You didn't have a child the same age as your children blown up in a local
town when (like your child at exactly the same time) he was out shopping for a
mother's day present. Again the bomb was set off by people financed by
citizens of the USA with their minds woolly on stupid myths.
The civil war in North America (ie the one up to 1812ish) happened. Some took
one side and some another for different and personal reasons. Pretending that
the split makes any sense worth commemorating in any way (other than in
regretting the loss of life on all sides) is wrong. It perpetuates myths and
encourages further loss of life.
