I've encouraged and helped two male relatives join a surname project where
the Most Distant Ancestor is displayed. I REALLY, REALLY object to Jason's
use of surnames because 1) he doesn't have permission from the individual,
and 2) he has misused FTDNA's databases. Data do not belong to the project
administrators; sample data belong to the person who did the test. This is
exactly the kind of thing that makes it hard to recruit people. All of the
participants join projects assuming their privacy will be protected to
extent that they wish, and it should be. It it's that easy to misuse FTDNA's
database, then FTDNA needs to fix it so that it can't be done.

I'm glad this is on the list. I'm rethinking whether my husband should send
in the kit he just received.
