I’m assuming, Lawrence, that you’re referring to me. I’ve said nothing to that effect. If this is the case (my apology otherwise), your ignorant, presumptive attitude is uncalled for! What I said was this: “As others have noted, the listing of surnames in projects is not such a big issue, not nearly as much as the security breach. I don’t think the former causes any harm. It does certainly help, however, the researcher or participant to recognize matches as surname-related, possible NPEs or adoptions, which is a primary goal of my spreadsheets.”
My spreadsheets, as you know, are Ysearch-based, a public database. Participants upload their results willingly. I’ve said nothing about the primary purpose of haplogroup projects “exposing illegitimacy,” as you’ve tried to sell to the List. If those who upload their results to Ysearch care not for discovering relationships, then that’s their choice. It is not your decision what they choose to do. I’m merely making the effort for those who wish to know more easily accessible. If the general readership of this forum would rather not have these spreadsheets available, notify me by email and I'll delete the website at once.
