By the time they were growing up, World War I was already disintegrating the
Austro-Hungarian Empire, and Magyarization along with it. Von Neumann was
born in 1903 and Teller in 1908, for example. But note that their Wikipedia
entries imply that they were indeed born with Hungarian names, and only
adopted German or English names later:
