When you realize that "Brittany" is an English word whose translation
is the French word "Bretagne", and when you realize that France was
composed of provinces before the revolution and is now composed of
departements, which are grouped into regions, you can make sense of
the quoted passage from Wikipedia, but it takes that much background
just to read it properly. It could have been written a lot more
clearly. In particular, if you restrict yourself to a single,
consistent set of geographic names (e.g., always in English, or
always in the predominant local language, or always in the language
of whatever records are being cited), there is no way to find both
"Brittany" and "Bretagne" in the same discussion.
