OK, when I was at that panel discussion that I promised to report on, I
asked Spencer Wells about this. He solemnly promised that the actual
data they are collecting WILL be made public, but in scientific papers,
which take time to prepare and get through the publishing process. It
sounds as there will be a frustrating but perfectly normal time lag
between data collection and publication. He said that in the coming
year, several papers will be published, and that one of them in
particular will include a lot of mitochondrial sequences.
So, I'm sure we all wish it were faster, but he did understand that we
want to see the data itself -- not just analytical conclusions from it
-- and assured me that the data would be published during the coming years.
