If it didnt originate among the basque or western europe you still need to explain why the diversity of V seem to be higher in the west than in the east, if it really came from the east then the eastern V population must have experienced some serious bottlenecking and drifting after the migration wave to western europe. Maybe another comet? ;)

I hardly think we could have originated in the Basque region at the end of the last ice age if there are no Vs in the early remains. Maybe we need to ask why the Saami have such a high incidence of haplogroup V.
