Because of the lack of responses, I assume there is almost nothing to be learned by X and autosomal testing in a geographic project. If I am wrong, please share some examples of what has or could be revealed in a geographic project.

Please let me know what may be learned by X and autosomal testing in a geographic project?

Is testing CODIS markers the same as autosomal testing? I assume FTDNA's advanced orders includes some extra markers beyond the CODIS markers. Is the X chromosome included when people talk of autosomal testing? Which markers/panels are recommended?

If there is some value to autosome testing, I'm thinking about suggesting it to participants in the Bahamas DNA Project whose ancestors are "all" from the Bahamas.

mtDNA testing in the Bahamas project has been quite informative.
There are 51 mtDNA results. Prior to testing, 49 of them were not known to share a direct maternal line ancestor. 27 of those 49 (55%) match someone else in the project. 32 "different" direct maternal lines have been revealed. A fair number who have a "European phenotype" belong to African haplogroups.

I'm wondering if autosomal testing may reveal a marker value shared by a large percentage of participants and if that marker value has a likely geographic origin.
