Vince,
As I kindly replied to you after your almost threatening emails, your theory
that the majority of Italian R1b was once Celtic is missing the fact that
Celtic and Italic are extremely close, to many coming from an older
Italo-Celtic. Thus, the Celts and Italics were probably both R1b, and of the
same kind not so long ago. I even offered you numerous references, which you
turned down.
Your credentials?

"Cut out the personal attacks.
They are unseemly, especially when they are unfounded.

Me:
"Perhaps you noted what Chandler called me in his last post?"
Vince:
"What part of "cut out the personal attacks" don't you get? Please be civil
or move along.
Me:
"Who are you? Either participate in the discussion, or at least read all the
posts I'm responding to.
If you were more confident, I think you would be posting your objections to
the list, to which I may forward your threats."
Vince:
"The genetically-informed are handling their side of this discussion quite
admirably and don't need my help.
If you were more confident, I'd imagine that you could probably provide
reasoned arguments in lieu of ad hominem attacks.
Vince"
Me:
"Italian DNA - your R1b theory
I've Googled you Vince, and though you appear to be a very competent
geneticist, you have not demonstrated any experience in linguistic matters.
However, this may prove a fortuitous exchange, since I didn't realize at
first that it was your excellent Italy DNA blog that I found a few months
ago, and actually quoted once or twice somewhere. And your posts in:
http://dna-forums.org/index.php?showtopic=647 are also quite impressive.
But you may be lacking an important piece of linguistic theory, and one
which has proven one of the cornerstones of Indo-European philology for two
centuries: the extreme closeness of Celtic and Italic.
It'll take me a few days (as I'm leaving for a short holiday tonight) to
produce a list of standard and reputable sources for you, (if you're
interested that is), but for now I can summarize:
Celtic and Italic are so close that an Italo-Celtic family has been proposed
and reproposed many times, and it is a thing which many linguists believe in
to this day.
But, their separation or last contact is dated to around 1500BC-2000BC,
rather like it is for Indo-Aryan and Iranian (< Indo-Iranian).
This well predates any Celtic-Italic contact in Italy, and thus you might
consider revising your Celtic Invasion theory, which I must admit is still
quite excellent, deriving as it does from an expert interpretation of the
best evidence available to you.
Cheers"
