If you go to the section entitled, "Analysis of coding
region," it will explain how they have set up this new
protocol, which was based on a 5' nuclease allelic
discrimination assay by Livak et al. 1995.

It should be noted that this study was not intended as
an in-depth mtDNA investigation of the entire French
population, but merely of certain sub-groups, in
particular the populations of Brittany and the French
Pyrennes.
