And there was a great deal of amalgamation with Celtic tribes along the
Roman frontier. For example, Arrian, in his 2nd-century "Anabasis of
Alexander," describes the Marcomanni and Quadi as Celtic tribes living along
the Danube, and he certainly had enough military experience as a Roman
commander in that region to know the difference.
