In addition to Jordan I offer Southern Egypt and more as follows:

From: A Back Migration from Asia to Sub-Saharan Africa Is
Supported by High-Resolution Analysis of Human Y-Chromosome
Haplotypes by Scozzari et alii, “Interestingly, a frequency of 13%
has been previously reported in an Egyptian sample for a group of
chromo-somes defined as haplotype 1C (Scozzari et al. 1999) and
closely related to the M173 chromosomes. Unfortunately, this sample
was not available for the present study. Although we cannot define
more precisely the haplotype of the Egyptian 1C Y chromosomes, it is
worth noting that four of six of these chromosomes showed
dinucleotide microsatellite haplotypes that matched or were one-
step neighbors of the M173 chromosomes found in Cameroon.”

From (the referenced study): Combined use of biallelic and
microsatellite Y-chromosome polymorphisms to infer affinities among
African populations by Scozzari et alii ( aka 990054.web.pdf ) :
SEG are Southern Egyptians who are 21-23 at both YCA Iia & b as well
as 413a&b as am I and the Ouldeme according to Table B1 in the appendix.

I have a recent private communication from Rosaria Scozzari that I
“nearly match” several in her Cameroon database and I am awaiting her
permission to be more specific in my statement although I believe
that the other R1b1* clusters newly found are at a greater genetic
distance. Also I note that 68DJZ at ysearch, a near match, states
that his ancestors came from Judea in the second century.

(Said with a broad grin) If that is not sufficient, I could also
suggest that I am proud to be a direct descendant of both King David
and King Tut.

Like Brian, I would not be surprised to find R1b* among the ancient
Egyptians. We have already found an isolate of high-concentration
R1b* near
the Dead Sea:

http://www.homestead.com/wysinger/jordan.pdf

The paper itself merely classifies this isolate as R1*-M173, but
according to a Sam Vass post on 9/4/2006:
---
From the author via private communication:

"What we want to say is that all the R individuals were P25
ancestrals although they were M173 derived. In fact we now know that
all these M173 subjects are also M343. A. M. Gonz?lez"
---

Thus, the Dead Sea isolate is R1b*. Perhaps this paragroup was much
more
common prior to the Middle Eastern invasions of the past several
thousand
years.

R. & G. Stevens:
Has it been found in Egypt? If I understood rightly the report at the
link
you posted, they tested a sample of 45 men living near the Dead Sea.
18 of
them were reported as R1-M173 but apparently were also M343+ (R1b*).
