"But yeah, sectarian differences are obviously indeed rife in the Arab World."
More than that... It is a Quranic mandated religous requirement to humiliate and degrade all adherents of other religions, both publically and privately. Oppression - militarily, economically, and soically - of non-Muslims must continue until the all submit to Islam. This has been the reality facing the Copts.

Only the first sentence is really true. The Copts speak the same
Arabic that other Egyptians do. Perhaps you are thinking of the
Christians in Ethiopia (who speak a Semitic but non-Arabic language).
It is at least questionable that the Copts are more "ancient
Egyptian" than the other Egyptians. Christianity came well after
ancient Egypt. Some of them converted to Islam; others did not.
There is certainly ethnic and religious prejudice in Egypt (as
elsewhere in the world), but saying that that the Copts are "hated
and abused" is sort of like saying "black Americans are hated and
abused by the whites." But yeah, sectarian differences are obviously
indeed rife in the Arab World.
