In modern terminology, 'Copt' by itself signifies 'native Egyptian
Christian'. Egyptian Muslims do not refer to themselves as Copts.

However, modern Copts speak Arabic in everyday life; only their religious
rites are in the Coptic language. Coptic is indeed a direct descendant of
the ancient Egyptian language.
