Subject: Re: [DNA] New mtDNA FGS results -- H2a

The H2 category is very confused at present which
I think is supposed to be cleared up soon.
For example, most people who are classified as H2b
when the HVR1 and HVR2 are tested suddenly transform into
H2a2 when the FGS is tested. I think FTDNA uses an old
classification system for the first test and a newer
Roostalu 2006 classification for the FGS. The old H2b and
the new H2b are not at all the same. The new H2a is also
completely different. How does an apple become an orange?
So if you are H2a, and if the Roostalu article is being
used as the standard, then I would guess that you have
the same 1438 and 4769 as the CRS in the coding region
which means you won't see these mutations showing up
in your CR. I would be curious to know which subset is
"Eastern European." I have a copy of Roostalu's classification
if you need it. Ann Turner also understands this issue.
There is a new mtDNA Haplogroup H Project, but it is
not up and running yet. I will be helping to run the H2
project as a co-coordinator.
