I cannot speck to the technical aspect of testing DYS464 like others have
done. However, myself and others have recently posted that the error rate at the
Arizona lab for this particular marker is very high. Having re-tested many
members of the Meek project at DNA Fingerprint and recently at the FTDNA
Houston lab I highly recommend ordering the DYS464X test if there is any reason
to question the results from the Arizona lab.

In my R1b Walden family the deduced ancestral haplotype for DYS464 is
14,14,17,17
Several years back one of the men in this group got results 14.14.14.17
This result of a 3 step jump was reviewed and confirmed by the lab as
14,14,14,17
I now have the DYS464X results for this same sample and it is reported
14c,14c, 17c, 17g
And the decision by FTDNA, was that 14,1,4,17,17 was correct and adjusted
the database.
My problem is not with this family but in two other cases where
we have R1b results of 15,15,15,17 for some of the tests and model values
for the family are 15,15,17,17
And in these cases we are having to assume parallel mutations for the data
to fit in any tree.
Is there a problem with DYS464 such that cases of 3 and 1 might really be 2
and 2?
I do not want to pay for a transfer fees and DYS 644 X tests if
my discomfort is only imaginary because of that one sample and not real
issue.
Any thoughts?
Thanks
