In haplogroup I1a, DYS455 is nearly always equal to 8, although I've
previously reported examples of 7 and 9. Today I noticed two SNP-tested I1a
results with 455=11 in the Haplogroup I1a Project at FTDNA:
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/yDNA_I1a/index.aspx?fixed_columns=on .
The kits are 45657 and 46246. In reviewing the haplotypes in the Ham
project, there's some indication that this may be a mutation since the
introduction of surnames. I've not had a chance to review the Haynes DNA
project data yet.
If these two results are accurate, this would represent two independent
3-step mutations back to the (presumably) original state of DYS455=11 from
which I1a is derived. Has anyone else seen a SNP-tested I1a result with
455=11? If so and the mutations are not recent, these may be excellent
candidates for the S SNP series test. The idea of a lab error in two results
with the same outcome on this marker seems a remote, but real possibility.
Thoughts? Thanks,
Phil Goff
