I have a problem with the DAR on my William Lewis who was a Major in the Rev War and was captured and was a prisoner at Charleston. The DAR gave my William Lewis credits to another William Lewis.
We have just presented a report to the DAR proving the other William Lewis was promoted to Col. and he was elsewhere in Virginia when he should have been a prisoner at Charleston. This man came from a military family with a General and Captain who served in the Rev War and descends from a prominent family. We are awaiting their answer to this. In my case I don't have a male candidate to test on my Lewis line. Story of my life. LOL!

I just wouldn't want people to jump right into DNA testing thinking that as
soon as they can get the results they will be eligible for these lineage

And, sadly, they won't help in my case with my Henry Maynor, because I'm
descended from his only known daughter, who was dead by the time her brothers
swore in a pension affidavit they were the only living heirs, and the original
DAR applicant didn't know (or didn't include) Mary Ann Maynor Webb as a
descendant, and the DAR refuses to accept that she was Henry's child -- despite
the fact that same affidavit names her husband Elias Webb as being with whom
Henry Maynor's papers were left when he died, and despite the fact that her
husband was appointed guardian to Henry's two youngest sons in 1814...etc etc.
And they won't discuss the case unless I join under another line and then
send them the evidence.
And don't get me started on why it's a problem to join on the other lines --
(uhm I can prove relationship to a known DAR patriot (even has a chapter
named after him!), but now they want me to prove his entire lineage and who his
WIFE was? despite the fact that many women have already been admitted on the
William Witcher lineage? --- PLEASE!)
But I DO have William Witcher's DNA tested, although not yet triangulated.
::Smile:: And I'm working on finding someone to test his wife's mtDNA and
maybe that will prove who she was...so anyone descended from one of William's
daughters (Elizabeth Razor or Rachel Morrison) who can do mtDNA and anyone
descended from Nancy Adkins Witcher (sister of the alleged wife -- who was never
passed down as William's wife in any branch of the family) who can supply
her mtDNA, PLEASE contact me, as I would like to resolve this question before I
die.
I no longer care about getting into the DAR -- I just want to resolve the
mystery of William's wife, it it's possible.
