For a detailed discussion of H3 distribution, see Achilli et al.
2004, "The Molecular Dissection of mtDNA Haplogroup H Confirms
That the Franco-Cantabrian Glacial Refuge Was a Major Source for
the European Gene Pool." The H3 distribution map in Figure 3
shows that the highest frequency of H3 is in northern Iberia and
on the islands of Sardinia and Corsica. H3 frequency generally
declines with distance from those locations.
