True, but if you can get back to where they were in the early 1800s then you
can go back another 2 or 300 years often in the same village but if not
within quite a small radius. Even better before 1800 there are a lot more
wills particularly if they were farmers. My experience is that wealthier
people were more inclined to travel around but the poor had much more
difficulty moving away from their home parish.

Marianne,

The thing about all people in Europe being from about the same place as
their ancestors 300 years ago is a myth. Once someone starts working on
their genealogy they discover that. The thing is you have to talk to the
brick walled genealogists and not just anyone off the street.
