Thank you Bob,
I have just received an invite from Jim Logan to join the Yahoo J-mtDNA
discussion group which I have just done.
Here's to learning more!

Dennis:

Contact Jim Logan, the administrator of the mtDNA J1 project, at
(mailto:) . I think he's a member of
this List, but
I don't recall him posting here.

Among other things, he has a yahoo discussion group at
_http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/J-mtDNA/_
(http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/J-mtDNA/) that
is open to anyone interested in the J mtDNA haplogroup, irrespective of
where
they test. I believe he initially started a J1 yahoo discussion group, but
it now appears he subsequently formed and is focused on discussing mtDNA J,
inclusive of J1.

I understand he's also working on updating, or contributing to the update
of, the J tree (or is it really a "branch"?).
.
Good luck, and welcome to the J1 mtDNA world.

I have recently received my mtDNA results from EthnoAncestry and am looking
to gain some knowledge
of this area of DNA genetics.
As I have not tested my mtDNA at FTDNA, I cannot join their J1 project
http://www.familytreedna.com/public/J1/
Are there any mtDNA websites or projects devoted to J testees from other
labs?

I have found an extremely informative MSc Thesis by Piir Serk titled "
Human
Mitochondrial DNA
Haplogroup J in Europe and Near East"
http://www.utlib.ee/ekollekt/diss/mag/2004/b16664851/Serk.pdf
He includes some very interesting Phylogenetic networks of Haplogroup J in
Europe, Near East and
North Africa
In this thesis he says the combination of my 185a, 188g and 228a defines
the
J1b subclade and in his
diagram I see a subclade that is defined by my mutations that has been
found
in Northern, Eastern
and Central Europe.
In my exact matches at Genetree, I find:- England 10, Ireland 7, Scotland
6,
Sweden 4, Slovenia 4,
Hungary 4, Germany 3, Finland 2, Norway 2, Czech Rep 1, Netherlands 1 which
bears out this Northern,
Eastern and Central Europe origin.

My mutations are:-
16069t, 16126c, 16519c
73g, 185a, 188g, 228a, 263g, 295t, 315.1c, 462t, 489c
